After worst ‘Uptober’ Bitcoin now likely to crash to $87,000, warns expert

Image
Bitcoin’s (BTC) bullish ‘Uptober’ reputation was shattered this year after the cryptocurrency ended October with a nearly 4% loss, marking its worst October performance since 2014. Now, according to cryptocurrency analyst and TradingView contributor TradingShot, the weak monthly close may signal the start of a deeper correction, potentially sending Bitcoin toward the $87,000 region in the weeks ahead. Bitcoin price analysis chart. Source: Finbold The analyst pointed to a fractal pattern mirroring Bitcoin’s price action between December 2024 and February 2025. During that period, BTC rejected a descending trendline, lost its higher-lows support structure, and ultimately fell roughly 32% from its all-time high.  The recent move, marked by a rejection at the 1-day 50-day moving average (MA), resistance on a descending highs trendline, and stalling at the 0.5 Fibonacci retracement, closely resembles that earlier setup. Notably, since mid-August, Bitcoin has made ...

Real estate or Bitcoin: Which is more reliable?

Image
Marcel Pechman explains whether real estate or Bitcoin is a better store of value and breaks down Instacart’s current valuation and why investors may want an alternate investment. On this week’s episode of Macro Markets , Cointelegraph analyst Marcel Pechman discusses the real estate markets, highlighting stagnant mortgage demand, attributed to rising rates. With an average 30-year fixed-rate mortgage interest rate of 7.27%, refinancing and home purchase applications have dropped significantly. Still, Pechman speculates that house prices might rise if inflation continues to grow. While some sellers may be distressed, real estate , especially urban residential, has historically been a reliable store of value. He concludes by highlighting that other investment options may not provide a safer haven in the current economic climate. In the second segment, Pechman discusses Instacart’s initial public offering, which established its valuation at roughly $10 billion, significantly lower tha...

Binance vs. SEC: How low can BNB price go?

Image
BNB is clinging on to its short-term bullish bias amid the Binance-SEC fiasco but a 30% price decline is still on the cards. The market capitalization of BNB (BNB) has dropped by more than $7 billion since June 5 when the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filed a lawsuit against Binance. BNB price eyes technical bounce The impact of the SEC lawsuit on Binance has been substantial so far with BNB down nearly 15% week-to-date. BNB daily market capitalization. Source: TradingView On June 6, the SEC requested the Washington D.C. district court to freeze Binance's U.S. assets worldwide. The order, if passed, will likely force the exchange to repatriate "fiat currency and crypto assets deposited, held, traded, and accrued by customers" at its U.S. platform. Meanwhile, Binance's United States' entity halted trading for several pairs, including Bitcoin (BTC), Tether (USDT), and Binance USD (BUSD). Theoretically, these events risk stirring people's BNB buy...

Bitcoin retracing? Here are the odds of it returning to $28K

On this week’s episode of The Market Report, Cointelegraph’s resident expert discusses if Bitcoin is retracing and if it can go back to the previous $28,000 level. In today’s Market Report episode, analyst and writer Marcel Pechman covers the regulatory environment that has been limiting Bitcoin’s (BTC) upside and the odds of a dump at $28,000. The show airs every Tuesday on the Cointelegraph Markets & Research YouTube channel. The first news article discussed is crypto exchange Bittrex and its founder being charged by the SEC. More importantly, United States Securities and Exchange Commission Enforcement Division Director Gurbir Grewal said that such “action should also send a message to other non-compliant crypto market intermediaries.” In Pechman’s opinion, that’s an explicit reference to Binance, Bybit and OKX, which have notoriously taken U.S. clients through VPN and other evasive strategies. Marcel does not believe that the SEC has a case besides a multimillion-dollar fine a...

Bitcoin holds $30K, but some pro traders are skeptical about BTC price continuation

Image
BTC traders are cautiously optimistic due to Bitcoin traditional assets, but there are still some macro headwinds to be aware of. Bitcoin (BTC) price has finally broken the $30,000 level after the key price zone lasted as a ten months resistance level. BTC price rallied 6.5% on April 10 and the much-awaited price gain ended an agonizing 12-day period of extremely low volatility, which saw the price hovering close to $28,200. Bulls are now confident that the bear market has officially ended, especially considering the fact that BTC price has gained 82% year-to-date. Another interesting note is, Bitcoin's decoupling from traditional markets has been confirmed, after the S&P 500 index presented a mere 0.1% gain on April 10, and WTI oil traded down 1.2%. Bitcoin traders are likely anticipating the Federal Reserve's interest rate policy to reverse sooner than later. Stagflation risk could be behind the decoupling Higher interest rates make fixed-income investments more a...

Arbitrum FUD spooks the market, but on-chain data shows whales accumulating ARB

Image
On-chain data and technical analysis shows strength in ARB price, even after a weekend filled with rumors and sell-offs. Arbitrum suffered a big blow during the April 1 to April 2 weekend due to a conflict between the ARB token holders and the Arbitrum Foundation on the allocation of $750 million ARB tokens worth around $900 million. Data from on-chain analysis firm Arkham Intelligence shows that the transfer of $50.5 million out of the disputed allocation of 750 million ARB tokens. They shared with Cointelegraph that, “Only 50.5 million of those tokens have been moved. 10 million tokens have been sent to be sold on exchanges, 40 million have been loaned to Wintermute and the remaining 500K remain untouched in a multisig wallet (labeled Gnosis Safe Proxy).” On April 3 morning, the Arbitrum Foundation conceded to the community's opposition and decided to break up the said proposal in question into multiple proposals for allocating the funds for the project's ecosystem growth. ...

Lido overtakes MakerDAO and now has the highest TVL in DeFi

A Nansen in December noted that Ether staking solutions had been in high demand since Ethereum’s shift to proof-of-stake. Liquid Staking protocol Lido Finance appears to have benefited most from the Ethereum merge in September, with its total value locked (TVL) now sitting at the top position among other decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols. According to data from DeFiLlama, Lido’s liquid staking protocol now commands $5.9 billion in TVL, compared to MakerDAO's $5.89 billion and AAVE’s $3.7 billion. 3 reasons why BNB price risks another 30% decline by January

Image
BNB has entered the breakdown stage of its prevailing ascending triangle pattern alongside some negative fundamentals that can push price further down. BNB (BNB), the native token of the Binance crypto exchange, is under threat of undergoing a significant price correction in the coming weeks, based on a mix of technical and fundamental indicators. BNB triangle breakdown continues From a technical perspective, BNB has entered the breakdown stage of its multi-month ascending triangle pattern, a trend continuation indicator. The breakdown could last until the price reaches the level that comes to be at the length equal to the triangle's maximum height. In other words, BNB's ascending triangle breakdown target is near $170, down about 30% from the current price levels, as shown below. The BNB/USD pair could drop to the said level by January 2023. Ethereum rallies to $1,350, but derivatives metrics remain neutral to bearish

Image
Pro traders aren’t buying ETH’s recent rally to $1,350 and data shows they expect Ether price to retrace if Fed chair Powell takes a hawkish tone on Wednesday. Ether (ETH) rallied 6.3% to $1,350 on Dec. 13, mimicking a similar failed attempt that took place on Nov. 10. Despite reaching the highest level in 33 days, the gains were not enough to instill confidence in traders according to two key derivatives metrics. Ether/USD price index, 12-hour. Source: TradingView Bulls' frustrations can partially be explained by Binance exchange facing a near-record $1.1 billion in withdrawals over a 24-hour period. The unusual behavior comes as Binance attempts to put out multiple disputes about its proof of reserves and overall solvency on crypto Twitter. According to Binance CEO, Changpeng Zhao, the social media posts amount to nothing more than FUD. However, Binance's USD Coin (USDC) reserves were emptied after alleged troubles with commercial banking hours. The negative newsflow contin...

Data shows the Bitcoin mining bear market has a ways to go

Image
The 2022 bear market is impacting BTC miners in more extreme ways than previous downturns, especially with so many publicly listed miners struggling with their debt obligations. Bitcoin (BTC) mining is the backbone of the BTC ecosystem and miners’ returns also provide insight into BTC’s price movements and the health of the wider crypto sector. It is well-documented that Bitcoin miners are struggling in the current bear market. Blockstream, a leading Bitcoin miner recently raised funds at a 70% discount. Current mining activity shares similarities to historic BTC bear markets with a few caveats. Let’s explore what this means for the current Bitcoin cycle. Analysis shows that based on previous cycles the bear market may continue Bitcoin mining profitability can be measured by taking the miner’s revenue per kilowatt hour (kWh). According to Jaran Mellerud, a Bitcoin analyst for Hashrate Index, a BTC mining bear market has a sustained period of revenue per kWh of less than $0.25. Under h...

Ethereum 'March 2020' fractal hints at price bottom — But ETH bears predict 50% crash

Image
Ethereum market analysts desperately search for the bottom but ETH price technicals aren't excluding further downside below $700. Ethereum's native token, Ether (ETH), eyes a strong bullish reversal after losing 25% from its November high of $1,675, according to a bottom fractal spotted by independent market analyst Wolf. Can Ethereum price co its March 2020 fractal?   Wolf compares Ethereum's multi-month downtrend between May 2018 and March 2020 with a similar but relatively shorter correction after July 2022. If the move repeats, that means the price of Ether has bottom ed in November 2022, according to the analyst, as shown below. ETH/USD 2019-20 and 2022 price performance comparison. Source: TradingView/Wolf Wolf draws cues from March 2020' s Ethereum price crash triggered by the Covid-19 pandemic — a black swan event. Similarly, ETH price was pushed down in November 2022 due to another black swan — the collapse of cryptocurrency exchange FTX. But ETH/USD rebo...

Demand for liquid Ethereum staking options continues to grow post-Merge

Demand for liquid Ethereum staking options gains pace in the months following the Merge, according to blockchain data. Blockchain data analytics carried out by Nansen highlights the ever-growing amount of Ether (ETH) being staked across various staking solutions in the months following Ethereum’s shift to proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus. The highly anticipated Merge has been a boon for decentralized finance (DeFi) in general, and staking solutions have been in high demand since Ethereum’s shift to PoS. This is according to blockchain Data from a variety of staking solutions across the Ethereum ecosystem. Nansen’s report highlights the impact of the Merge in introducing staked ETH as an out-and-out cryptocurrency-native yield-bearing instrument that has quickly outstripped other collateralized yield-bearing services. The likes of Uniswap and other automated-market makers and liquidity providers remain popular but pale in comparison to the total value locked in staked ETH solutions. O...
